Spring & Fall Cleanups
Both spring and fall lawn cleanups are a basic necessity with seasonal climate changes in Minnesota. While some people choose to perform the task themselves, others hire a professional lawn and landscape company like Quality Lawn Care & Landscaping Service for the service because of our extensive experience and use of commercial-grade equipment to get the job done right. There are many benefits of a quality lawn cleanup beyond just making your yard look nice.
Spring cleanups are vital to your lawn’s initial startup. Ignoring leaves that may have fallen late the previous fall often causes dead spots that will be very noticeable and difficult to grow back naturally as summer approaches. Quality Lawn Care & Landscaping crews will clean landscaped areas with leaves and other debris, prune shrubs (if needed), and dethatch all grass areas of your lawn.

Another contributing factor to a lawn’s startup is thatching. Thatch is a tightly intermingled layer of living and dead stems, leaves, and roots that accumulates between the layer of actively growing grass and the soil underneath. A build-up of thatch can be a breeding ground for organisms that cause diseased grass and can become a welcoming environment for harmful insects. These things can cause sluggish growth and dying patches of grass.
Benefits Of Dethatching Your Lawn
One great benefit of dethatching is achieving a greener lawn earlier in the season. By removing the thatch, the sun and water can more easily reach the soil to increase ground temperature and provide nutrition previously used up by the grass in the fall. In addition, this wakes up dormant microorganisms allowing them to get a jump start creating good nutrients for the grass plant. We use large rakes attached to our mowers designed for loosening the soil surface to break up and expose the thatching. This is then collected by our commercial-grade equipment and is hauled away from your property for disposal.
Voles And Moles
Many homeowners will notice tiny tunnels and lines in their grass after the snow has melted. These are more common under piles of snow from driveways, roadways, sidewalks, and other areas that have been cleared regularly during the winter. These lines and tunnels are commonly caused by Voles and/or Moles. They use the snow as insulation and tunnel through your sod using the ground temperature to keep warm. Dethatching these areas will break up their tunnels and deter the critters from sheltering under your lawn. After dethatching, these areas will typically regrow with a bit of help and nurturing.
